Practising Presence

A 40 DAY ADVENTURE IN BEING HERE NOW

This Lent…

Establish a rhythm of presence and dare to call it prayer.

Wake up to the sacredness of the here and now by giving yourself fully to the present moment.

Explore how you can practise presence anywhere, anytime with anyone or anything.

Let your presence be a pathway into an encounter with Divine Presence.

Receive the sacrament of the present moment.

This adventure is for you if you…

want to be more present to your life

are aware that there is richness and beauty around you but feel you are missing it because you are distracted

sense there is a mysterious More to life but aren’t sure how to connect

long more for a more expansive experience of prayer or the Divine

want to welcome your senses into your contemplative practice

How it works…

Throughout Lent, I will be offering both daily and weekly invitations to practise presence.

These invitations will help you to wake up to the here and now and to encounter the enfolding Presence of the Divine.

A daily dose of presence

Throughout our adventure, I will offer a daily invitation to be awake for a moment that invites you to move fully into the present. All you’ll need to do is let this moment interrupt you by spending a few minutes giving yourself to it fully. I’ll encourage you to savour the moment without judgement and let the experience be enough. You can always reflect later, if you like.

I’ll be taking photos of where I practise presence each day and I encourage you to do the same. I’ll be sharing these snapshots daily on Instagram and would love to see yours too. Otherwise, keep your photos as a hidden record of moments of presence. I’ll be offering a few suggestions for how you might like to gather these together in our final feast (see below).

A weekly soak in presence

Each week, through my newsletter, I’ll be inviting you to bring your awareness to one of your senses, allowing it to be a pathway into presence. I’ll share a couple of ideas for how you might like to do this. I think of these as recipes for presence that can be customised to suit your situation and needs.

Final feast

To close our time together, I’ll offer a couple of suggestions for how you can gather together all that you have noticed during your adventure in presence.

Can’t wait to journey with you.

“Prayer is not primarily saying words or thinking thoughts. It is, rather, a stance. It’s a way of living in the Presence, living in awareness of the Presence, and even of enjoying the Presence.”
